The Gifted Academy is housed at three school sites:
1) The Gifted Academy at Thurgood Marshall Elementary holds the RPS 205 Gifted Program Grades 1-4. Marshall Elementary 3rd and 4th grade PARCC scores were #6 in the state of Illinois for the 2016-2017 school year. There are four classrooms at Grades one through 4. Students are assigned to one teacher, although there are many opportunities for students to interact with students in other classrooms. These interactions can be whole- or small-group. At some grade levels teachers team teach based on their areas of expertise. Students also participate in music, physical education and art provided by specialists.
Maximum class sizes:
- Grades 1-3: 26 students
- Grades 4-5: 30 students
2) The Gifted Academy at Thurgood Marshall School
holds students, Grades 5-8. Marshall 5th-8th grade combined PARCC scores were #1 in the state of Illinois for the 2016-2017 school year. Students switch classes and teachers each hour, similar to a traditional Middle School. During their 7-period day, students participate in five core classes (four at Grade 8) and complete their day with electives.
3) Grades 9-12 attend the Gifted Academy at Auburn High School, one of six High School Academies housed at Auburn. Students in the program at Auburn take core academic classes in the Gifted Academy. Students also choose a College & Career pathway, completing a 3-year course sequence in an area of interest. To complete their 7-period day, students choose any electives that Auburn High School has to offer, including ROTC, languages, CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts) dance, music or theater, technology, and more.
- During the 2016-17 school year, all sophomores and juniors participate in the PSAT/NMSQT. This test predicts how students will perform on the SAT and is also the first step in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
