 FAQs: Additional Questions

new!  Is the choice I make by Aug. 3 final? Or can I change it in the days leading up to the start of the school year or during the school year for any reason?
At this time, families will be required to stay with their Aug. 3 decisions through the first trimester (elementary) or semester (middle and high school). We must have an accurate count of the number of students in school vs. learning from home to plan for teachers and support staff.

new!  Do all students in the same family need to choose the same plan? Full-time remote OR in-person?
No. Families can make different choices of each of their students and whatever works best for them.

new!  How will special education services be provided?

If a student chooses remote instruction, those services will be provided remotely.

new!  For high school pathway courses, will students continue to travel outside of the school?
At this time, both the Construction program (East/Guilford only) and the Medical Science program (four traditional high schools) will take place with students leaving campus as they normally would. Both programs are putting social distance practices in place to ensure the safety and health of our students.

If a student chooses remote learning, they will NOT be able to participate in the traditional hands-on activities in the class. Even if a student were to transport him/herself to the build site or hospital, they cannot participate if they choose remote learning. Visits to the home build site and the hospital will only be available for students who choose in-person learning. We are compiling a list of virtual options for teachers to use when developing their remote learning lesson plans.

Who will be responsible for catching students up if they return to school after being homeschooled?
RPS 205 teachers are skilled educators and are prepared to address student needs, regardless of when they enter the system.

Will there be additional oversight of homeschooling during this time?
Homeschooling is not part of RPS 205, so no oversight can be provided.

Will you supply families planning to homeschool temporarily (for the year/until there is a treatment plan) with educational requirements?
If a student chooses to unenroll at RPS 205 for the year to home school, no resources will be provided since the student is not a student of RPS 205.

Will state tests be suspended or modified?
We’ve not yet received word from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) but we will keep this page updated with the latest information as we receive it.

Will senior students be offered the SAT test in the fall?
Students will be offered the SAT. We are awaiting details from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
