The National Junior Honor Society at the middle school level and the National Honor Society at the high school level are the nation's foremost organizations that recognize outstanding students. The National Junior Honor Society does not just acknowledge academic success but looks for students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. These characteristics have been the focus of the National Junior Honor Society since its inception in 1929.
In the spring of 2013, West Middle School was presented a charter for its own chapter of the National Junior Honor Society by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the administrators of this organization. Students who become members of the WMS Junior Honor Society do so not only because of their exceptional academic successes but also their willingness to participate in activities that will benefit the school community as well as the community at large.
