2016 Second Trimester Review Packet.pdf
Reading Log: 1,200 pages need to be read and recorded between November 17, 2014 and February 10, 2015. Independent reading is important to developing reading skills. The more you read, the better you read. Therefore, books recorded on the reading log are expected to be in addition to the reading already being read as part of the curriculum.
Two of the books on the reading log MUST come from the required genre. The required genre for winter trimester are:
1. Historical Fiction- A story that takes place in the past. The story gives readers insight into what the world was like during that time. Fictional main characters may interact with real historical characters and witness real historical events, but the story is basically fiction. The story must be historical to the time of publication. For example, Little Women is not historical fiction, because the setting was modern from the perspective of the author.
2. Mystery- The plot is driven by a mystery, often a crime, that needs solved.
Librarians and internet searches through local book stores databases can be useful for checking if a book fits the required genre.
Book Review: Students will complete two book reviews. One for their mystery and one for their historical fiction,. The book review will be evaluated on depth of analysis, quality and quantity of ideas, spelling, and grammar. Students may submit their review typed, but copy and paste is forbidden from an internet site. Words that are not the student's is plagiarism and will result in a zero.
