Book Review Requirements: First Trimester
Independent reading is a major factor in student reading growth. Students are required to read a minimum of 20- 30 minutes every single day as part of their homework. The more you read, the better you read. Therefore, books recorded on the reading log are expected to be in addition to the reading already being read as part of the curriculum. Students who do not practice their reading daily quickly fall behind their peers in reading growth and vocabulary development.
Reading Log: 1,000 pages need to be read and recorded between August 24, 2015 and November 10, 2015.
Two of the books on the reading log MUST come from the required genre. The rest is students personal genre choices. The required genres for Fall Trimester are:
1. Fantasy fantasy_review_rubric_2015.pdf
2. Realistic Fiction realistic fiction_review_rubric_2015.pdf
Librarians and internet searches through local book stores databases can be useful for checking if a book fits the required genre.
Book Review: Students will complete two book reviews: one for each of the required genres. The book review will be evaluated on depth of analysis, quality and quantity of ideas, spelling, and grammar. Students will submit their reviews typed, but copy and paste is forbidden from an internet site. Words that are not the student's is plagiarism and will result in a zero.
