Principals Corner

Welcome back for a new school year.  It is unbelievable that the summer is over and that the new school year is upon us.  I am excited and honored to be working with both you and your students in my second year at Barbour Two-Way Language Immersion.  We have a passion for student and teacher success that will have Barbour performing at its best.  The staff members at Barbour are committed to making an exciting learning environment for each and every student.

Barbour Two-Way Language Immersion is such a unique place since we teach in two languages.  The students have the special opportunity to become bi-literate and learn from such a wonderful and dedicated staff.  The teachers are well prepared to give your students an enriching learning experience.  We will be focusing on developing all of our students' vocabulary and math facts this year by continuing to implement the Common Core State Standards in each lesson and by dedicating time each day on vocabulary and math facts.

The school district is changing their benchmark assessment from Discovery Education to MAP.  This will lead to better data to help each child learn at his or her level as well as less testing throughout the school year.  Please be on the look-out for more information regarding the assessment.  We are all very excited by this change.

As the year progresses there will be many exciting things happening at Barbour.  The PTO has an event scheduled almost every month to support the school. These events will range from Chuck E Cheese coming to school and hosting an event to McTeachers night at your local McDonalds.   Be sure to be looking out for flyers with information on all of these events.  I am very excited to meet all of you at these wonderful that help our students.

We are implementing the school version of Let's Talk this year.  Some of you may be familiar with the Let's Talk button on the district's homepage, but now we will also have it on Barbour's webpage.  It is another way for everybody to communicate their questions, concerns, or exciting moments.  I can't wait to begin using this as a communications tool.

I am looking forward to working with every one of you again and I am going to thank you in advance for your continued support of your child, your child's teacher, and of the school.  If at any time you would like to discuss anything, feel free to contact me through Let's Talk or by email .  Best wishes to you and your child on the upcoming school year.
