Rockford Public Schools will host the Fourth Annual Basketball Coaching Clinic on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Auburn High School field house, 5110 Auburn St. The clinic is from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features Wichita State University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Gregg Marshall. In 2014, Marshall was named the Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coach of the Year, and the Associated Press Men’s College Basketball Coach of the Year.
Marshall recently signed a $3 million per-year contract to continue coaching the Shockers for the next seven years. He has led the Shockers to four straight NCAA tournaments, including a trip to the Final Four in 2013. Wichita State lost to Notre Dame in the Sweet 16 this past season. Marshall coaches former Auburn High School standout Fred VanVleet. VanVleet is now a senior at Wichita State.
The clinic is open to all area basketball coaches. This is the only clinic of its kind in the Rockford area and brings together a diverse group of successful local and regional coaches to share insights and improve student athletics and coaching technique.
“This annual clinic develops local and regional coaching talent,” said Mat Parker, Director of Athletic Activities and Program Development for RPS 205. “Rockford Public Schools is helping develop quality coaches and provide in-demand training locally to help us continue to improve our athletic programs.”
The $25 fee includes the clinic, lunch and gift. Featured guests include:
- Wichita State University Men’s Basketball Coach Gregg Marshall
