The Rockford School Board tonight approved two major construction projects: a cafeteria addition and renovations at Bloom Elementary School, and a new roof at Beyer Elementary School.
The 4,512 square-foot addition at Bloom, 2912 Brendenwood Road, will be done in two phases: Construction on the cafeteria and kitchen addition will start next month and be completed in late May 2017. Construction on the second phase includes renovations to the gymnasium and restrooms, plus a vertical lift to make the school compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Second phase construction will begin in June 2017 and be completed in August 2017.
The School Board agreed to hire Rockford Structure to do the $1.8 million project. Nine companies attended a pre-bid meeting, and six companies submitted bids:

The School Board agreed to hire Weatherguard Roofing Company for $596,900 to remove the existing roof at Beyer, 333 15th Ave., and install the new roof. Construction will begin next month. The project will be completed by January 2017.
