Strategic Planning Process Underway

10/16/2014

Update:

The Strategic Plan Community Input Forum dates are now posted on rps205.com/readiness2020.

The Rockford Public Schools this week began to craft its vision for the future of the schools through a strategic planning process called Readiness 2020.

A 55-member strategic planning team made up of teachers, students, parents and community members will work with School Board President Ken Scrivano and board member Tim Rollins. The team will meet five times between now and January to review and revise the district's shared mission, vision, values, commitment and goals. The team's first meeting is from 6:30-8 tonight (Thursday, Sept. 25) in the third floor board room at the Administration Building, 501 7th St. The agenda for the meeting – as well as a list of team members and other background information – is available on the district's website, rps205.com. All meetings are open to the public.

The Consortium for Educational Change is facilitating the planning process, which includes these steps to gather information to help the Readiness 2020 team do its work:

  • Volunteers from Chicago area schools (including assistant superintendents, principals and teacher leaders) are holding focus groups this week at 20 RPS 205 schools. Administrative employees will also participate in focus groups in their departments.
  • The district is surveying parents, teachers, staff and community partners about strengths and weaknesses of RPS 205 and what priorities the schools should set. (We would appreciate your help in encouraging the public to fill out the survey at rps205.com/readiness2020)

Information gathered in these two steps – an environmental scan – will be shared with the strategic planning team in a data retreat on Thursday, Oct. 16. After the team's final meeting on Thursday, Jan. 8, it will present a completed Readiness 2020 plan to Superintendent Ehren Jarrett, who will then submit it to the School Board for review and approval. The plan will replace Visualize 2015, which sunsets in July.
