Rockford Public Schools has again received recognition for its financial practice. The Association of School Business Officials International awarded RPS its Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in budget presentation.
The award is for excellence in the preparation and issuance of the school budget for the fiscal year 2013-14, the current fiscal year.
Applying for the award, according to the association, reflects the high standards RPS has for business management practices. To earn the award, officials submitted the 2013-14 budget for a rigorous review.
RPS announced in June its fourth consecutive recognition for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. That award reflects the district’s financial performance and audit. Administrators were notified of the Meritorious Budget Award in January, which acknowledges good budget practice on the front-end of budget creation and development.
"This honor illustrates the high standards we apply in the budget development process," said Chief Financial Officer Cedric Lewis. "The award aligns Rockford Public Schools with the very best in the country for budget design."
The Association of School Business Officials International represents more than 5,000 members worldwide and promotes the highest standards of school business management practices. Last year, 14 of the 127 Meritorious Budget Awards were given to Illinois districts.
