Rockford Public Schools will celebrate fine arts across the district and the city through All-City Fine Arts week March 5-9. The inaugural Fine Arts Week launched last year, and district leaders, staff and students are looking forward to another weeklong celebration of arts in the district and the community. The community is invited to attend several events that celebrate the arts:
March 5: All-City Choir Festival
High school and middle school choir students will perform together with direction from a guest conductor at the Coronado Performing Arts Center. Concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.
March 6: All-City Band & Orchestra Festival
High school band and orchestra students will spend the day in workshops and rehearsals with direction from guest clinicians. Concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.
March 7: All-City Art Workshops and Gallery Walk
High school art students will spend the day in art workshops at the Rockford Art Museum. High school and middle school student artwork will be on display from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at six downtown locations: Stewart Square, Nordlof Center, Veterans Memorial Hall, Octane InterLounge, Thinker Ventures, Rockford Roasting Company.
March 8: All-City Theatre Workshops
High school and middle school theatre students will spend the day in theatre workshops with direction from local theatre professionals and theatre companies at Rock Valley College and the Starlight Theatre.
March 8: Fine Arts Hall of Fame Awards
Rockford Public Schools will honor a teacher, an artist, a musician, an actor and a high school theatre production at its third Fine Arts Hall of Fame Awards at 5 p.m. March 8 at Prairie Street Brewing Company. The event recognizes RPS 205 graduates who went on to achieve tremendous success in his or her arts field, former arts productions, and educators or advocates who have made a valuable impact on the arts in Rockford Public Schools. March 9: All-City Elementary Music & Art Festival
Select fifth grade students will spend the day in music workshops that culminate with a performance and art display at Maria Montessori at Marsh. Concert begins at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
