RPS 205 Announces Principals for 2015-16 School Year

Rockford Public Schools administrators are excited to announce the appointments of three experienced RPS 205 administrators to lead schools in the 2015-16 school year. The appointments are pending board approval:

Auburn High School: Janice Hawkins, in her third year as Principal at Guilford High School, will take over at Auburn High School in July. Hawkins taught at Zion Benton High School and was an administrator in the Freeport School District and RPS 205. Hawkins is a 1985 graduate of Auburn, where she was in the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) program for dance and theatre. She was also on the debate team and was a three-sport athlete.

Guilford High School: Jennifer Lawrence, Assistant Principal for Special Education at Guilford, will take over as Guilford principal in July. She has been at Guilford since 2013 as a member of the administrative team. Lawrence first began working at Guilford in 1998 as a student teacher and substitute. She has 10 years of teaching experience in RPS 205; Chandler, Arizona; the Fox Lake School District in Lake County and McHenry High School in McHenry. She has another six years of administrative experience in the McHenry School District and RPS 205. Lawrence is a 1989 graduate of Guilford, where she ran track, cross-country and was a cheerleader.

West Middle School: Maurice Davis, in his fourth year as Principal at Welsh Elementary School, will take over at West Middle School in July. Davis has teaching experience in Chicago Public Schools and RPS 205. He has also overseen social studies curriculum and been an assistant principal. He is a 1999 graduate of Guilford High School.

Each principal is developing a plan to start the school year and build relationships with parents, staff and students in those schools.

An extensive search drew between 20 and 40 applicants for each position. “I’m pleased that we have strong internal applicants who have solid administrator experience with a commitment to Rockford Public Schools and this community,” said Deputy Superintendent Matt Vosberg.

Open principal positions at East High School, Welsh Elementary School and Two-Way Language Immersion at Barbour have not yet been filled for the 2015-16 school year. The Rockford School Board is expected to approve compensation information later this month.
