New football coach at East


​The Rockford School Board tonight approved the appointment of Gary Griffin as the new East High School head football coach. Coach Griffin has been Rockford Lutheran High School’s Athletic Director since 2010. Rockford Lutheran’s athletic programs have dramatically improved under his leadership.

Griffin has experience as head football coach from 2002-2009 at Bay View High School in Milwaukee. Under his tenure, Bay View had a 27–6 conference record with five playoff appearances. Griffin also worked as the wide receiver and special teams coordinator for the University of Dubuque. Griffin is a graduate of Concordia University in Wisconsin, where he played football and was a two-time All-American defensive back and Defensive Player of the Year.

In other athletics news: Dan Appino will take over July 1 as Auburn High School’s Athletic Director. The School Board approved his appointment May 27. Appino was hired as a school counselor and Auburn’s head football coach in 2012. Appino will continue to serve as Auburn’s head football coach.
