More Upgrades OK’d at Conklin, Johnson, Lathrop Schools

​​The Rockford School Board accepted a $3 million contract with Stenstrom General Contractor for window and univent replacement, additional classroom electrical outlets and panels at Conklin, Johnson and Lathrop elementary schools. The School Board accepted the $3,058,000 bid at tonight’s meeting.

Nine companies attended the pre-bid meeting in November, and three companies submitted bids: Stenstrom General Contractor, Larson & Larson Builders, and Rockford Structures. Rockford Public Schools uses a blind bid process. Bids were submitted in sealed envelopes and publicly opened Nov. 20.

Funding for the project is allocated in the Fiscal Year 2015 capital budget. Work on the upgrades is expected to begin in June. Work will be completed before the start of the 2015-16 school year.

Additions at Conklin, Johnson and Lathrop elementary schools were completed in the 2013-14 school year. They were among the first board-approved construction projects tied to the district’s $139 million bond referendum and school upgrades. The additions included new cafeteria space, production kitchens so meals are prepared on site, an additional resource room, and a security vestibule at each school’s main entrance.
