Lincoln Middle School will receive new energy-efficient windows after the Rockford School Board approved a bid to replace the windows at its meeting tonight.
The board agreed to hire Krull Window Company for the approximately $2.2 million project. Four companies responded to the Invitation for Bid: Krull, Jensen Window Corporation, Stenstrom and Rock Valley Glass (bids below).
The Rockford Public Schools expects a considerable energy savings when the work is complete. Nearly 25 percent of RPS 205's natural gas bill comes from Lincoln, West Middle School and East High School. East's windows were replaced in summer 2013. Last winter, there was an 18 percent reduction in gas use at East because of the new windows.
Five alternates were submitted with the Lincoln bid; they relate to other work that might be needed to finish the project. The window replacement will begin this summer and should be finished by summer 2016. The replacement of West's windows is expected to go to bid this fall.
The work is part of the 10-year facilities plan, funded in part by a successful $139 million bond referendum approved by voters in 2012.
