Guilford High School celebrates field house groundbreaking

Guilford High School and Rockford Public Schools students, staff and community supporters on Tuesday celebrated the start of construction for a 56,000-square-foot addition that includes a field house. Ringland Johnson Construction was hired in December to build the $8.5 million addition. Foundation work has already begun at the site. Completion is expected in the fall.

The addition includes:
160-meter track with three basketball courts new entrance to the school’s swimming pool weight room
concession stand area
storage space
athletic offices
LED lighting
Terrazzo flooring

The existing weight room will be converted into much-needed classroom space.

Field house construction is also underway at Auburn High School. Because of the snowy and cold winter, construction may not be complete in time for the start of school as was initially anticipated. A field house will be added at East High School, and gym renovations are slated for Jefferson High School.

Much of that construction is funded through a successful $139 million capital bond referendum, which voters approved in November 2012. School additions have also been completed at Conklin, Froberg, Johnson, Lathrop, McIntosh and Spring Creek elementary schools.
