7/27/2018 Update: The contractor plans to make more bricks from
Walker Elementary School available on Saturday morning.
Bricks from Walker Elementary School will be available to the public starting Friday, July 27. A limited number of bricks will be in a pile outside the construction fence, first come, first served.
Demolition of the school, 1520 Post Ave., began July 10. It has been vacant since the end of the 2015-16 school year. The Rockford School Board approved plans in October – based on community feedback – to tear down the school and transfer the vacant land to the Rockford Park District.
Save the Date – Friday, Aug. 17: A ribbon cutting at the new Cherry Valley Elementary School is set for 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, followed by a community open house from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Then Cherry Valley Elementary School families are invited to an open house and PTO back-to-school picnic from 5-7:30 p.m. Principal Carolyn Timm will present information to families at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the school commons area.
