Bricks from New Milford Elementary School will be available to the public starting Monday, Aug. 26. A limited number of bricks will be in a pile outside the construction fence, first come first served.
Demolition of the school, 2128 New Milford School Road, is expected to begin Wednesday, Aug. 21. The school has been vacant since the end of the 2010-11 school year, and it was temporarily used for storage. The third, fourth, and fifth-grade school consolidated with Froberg Elementary School, which now serves students in kindergarten through fifth grades.
The Rockford School Board and Rockford Park District agreed to a land swap in February 2017 under an intergovernmental agreement. In the deal, RPS 205 officials agreed to transfer land from White Swan, Thompson and New Milford elementary schools to the Park District for neighborhood recreational opportunities.
