 Back-to-School Update

RPS 205 parents/guardians, students and staff,

The state released formal guidelines on Tuesday about what in-person learning will look like this fall. I want to reassure our families, students and staff that we are planning to continue in-person instruction starting Sept. 1, the first day of school.

We're working through the intricate details of reopening schools, and we're not ready to share finalized plans yet. Right now, two things are really important for our families and staff to know:

  • In-person learning will continue. Gov. Pritzker stressed the importance on Tuesday of continuing face-to-face learning. The benefits of in-person instruction and connection can't be overstated. Our teachers and staff miss our students, and our students need that continued social-emotional connection with their classmates, friends and school staff. We're all looking forward to a return to some normalcy with additional safety precautions.
  • Our No. 1 priority, as always, is to keep our students and staff safe. We know that our families want to keep their children and loved ones safe, too. Planning a return to in-person learning will be a partnership between our families, students and staff, and we'll all work together to ensure we're returning in a safe way.

We'll share more information soon about our plans and our expectations from our staff, students and families. This is a partnership. The state has outlined several details about masks, temperature checks and planning for the possibility of a return to remote learning in case there's an outbreak at a school or in our community. We know that some families might need a remote learning option on the first day of school. We're working through all those details. We will continue to work together to ensure we're safely able to continue teaching and learning and put students first.

Again, thank you for your patience and cooperation during this unprecedented time.
