Auburn High School Principal Devon LaRosa will resign at the end of this school year. LaRosa will become principal at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, pending board approval. LaRosa became Auburn's principal in 2013 after working at Jefferson High School as an Assistant Principal of Curriculum.
LaRosa, a Guilford High School graduate, said the decision to leave Auburn students and staff was difficult. But it's the right decision for his family, and he will gain leadership experience and perspective outside RPS 205.
"Auburn is in a really good place," LaRosa said. "I didn't come here to fix it – it wasn't broken. But we've worked as a team to improve the school climate and invest in our students' lives. I really feel like we've moved the needle."
Deputy Superintendent Matt Vosberg said LaRosa's departure is a loss for Rockford Public Schools. "We really value Devon. We did everything we could to encourage him to stay in Rockford Public Schools," Vosberg said. "We're supportive of his decision to do what's best for his family, and we wish him well in this new opportunity."
The Administration will begin a search for the principal position for the 2015-16 school year.
