The Rockford School Board tonight approved an addition and renovation work at Brookview Elementary School, set to begin in June. The 6,000 square-foot addition, worth $2.3 million, includes a new gymnasium, kitchen, windows and chair lift to bring the school into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The addition will allow the existing shared gymnasium and cafeteria space to be solely used as a cafeteria with a full-service production kitchen on site.
Seven companies attended a pre-bid meeting, and three companies submitted bids:
- Larson & Larson Builders $2,303,210
- Rockford Structures $2,360,000
- Stenstrom $2,487,000
Larson & Larson Builders submitted the lowest responsible bid. The School Board awarded the work to Larson & Larson tonight for $2,303,210. Completion is expected in the spring of 2017.
The total project budget is $2,216,949. The capital project contingency fund will absorb the rest of the balance.
The School Board has already approved additions at Riverdahl and Gregory elementary schools for the upcoming construction season. The board will be asked to approve an addition at Bloom Elementary School in the coming weeks.
Additions are also planned over the next two years at the following sites: Carlson and Lewis Lemon elementary schools and John T. Haight School (which will house the elementary gifted program starting with the 2016-17 school year).
