The Rockford School Board tonight approved an addition and renovation work at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, set to begin in June. The more than 6,400 square-foot addition includes a gymnasium. The school’s existing gymnasium will be expanded and renovated into a full-size, standard production kitchen and cafeteria. Renovations also include converting locker rooms into restrooms. Construction will begin in June and should be finished next spring.
Thirteen companies were represented at the pre-bid meeting, and four companies submitted bids:

- Stenstrom General Contractors: $1,926,500
- Rockford Structures Construction: $2,015,800
