graders at Gregory Elementary
learned the rules in other communities. They researched a variety of jobs and
determined what kinds of responsibilities each worker has in our community. The
children then gathered information about our sister city in Ferentino, Italy. They compared and contrasted Ferentino to Rockford. The culminating
activity involved the students working on their defined STEM project. While in
cooperative learning groups each child had an opportunity to contribute to the creation
of our city model. The students transformed foam board and boxes into buildings
and landmarks. As teachers we saw high levels of student engagement. All of the
students showed great pride in displaying their final product.
