Spring is a great time to prepare your child for school in the fall. Whether your child will start school for the first time this September, you are looking for a new home in the area, or it's been a while since you've considered a public school, we invite you to take a student-led tour of a Rockford public school before summer vacation. A student's perspective is a valuable resource in your preparations. Students can help you learn more about what you already value academically and personally.
To schedule a student-led tour please contact the school you wish to tour. You can find schools in your neighborhood zone by entering your address into the school zone locator, http://rps205.mapmyschools.com/Locator.
You can plan to attend one of our enrollment open houses this spring. Your family can tour the school without an appointment and enroll on the spot! Open houses are scheduled at the following schools:
• Johnson Elementary, 8 – 11 a.m. April 29 • Rolling Green Elementary, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. April 30 • Whitehead Elementary, 9 a.m. – noon May 1 • Bloom Elementary, 8 – 11 a.m. May 2
Staff at the schools and the RPS 205 Welcome Center are happy to help you and your family to prepare for a successful school year together. You can enroll for the following school year as early as December. Families can enroll at the Welcome Center, 501 7th Street. The Welcome Center is open all year, including summer: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Enrolling early allows for a less hectic back-to-school experience for you and your child. At enrollment you receive information about physical and immunization requirements which prompts a visit to a healthcare provider. School websites list supplies needed for the following school year and uniform policies, if required. Those enrolling before July will receive the annual school registration packet in the mail over the summer. That means you can complete the paperwork at home instead of on the spot during registration in August. Getting that first enrollment step done early allows you make your school year preparations at a more leisurely pace and helps you to avoid the crowd at registration.
Rockford School Board member Jaime Escobedo submitted his resignation from the board effective Wednesday, May 29.
All RPS 205 elementary and middle school students will follow a shortened schedule on Monday, June 3.
Ethan Strombeck will receive a $2,500 scholarship.
The elementary schools will close after this school year.
