My name is Abby Compton. I am brand new to RPS 205 and am excited to begin my journey with the district! I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but relocated to the Rockford area at a young age.
I graduated from Rock Valley College in 2017 and Northern Illinois University in 2018, obtaining my bachelor's of arts degree in communication with an emphasis in corporate and organizational settings. Rockford will always feel like home to me. My parents are both proud RPS 205 teachers. My mom is a language arts teacher at West Middle School and my dad is a physical education teacher and golf coach at East High School. Their dedication to the student-athletes of RPS 205 has inspired me to pursue a career with the district as well.
I am no stranger to the world of athletics. In high school, I played volleyball, basketball and ran track. Sports have always played a special role in my life, and I was lucky enough to find some success in them. I qualified for state in track and field my sophomore, junior and senior year. During my senior year my basketball team won a regional title, and I was selected to play in the Rising Stars Classic. I was fortunate enough to continue playing volleyball at the collegiate level and start for RVC as a freshman. This furthered my love for the game and my passion for competitive sports.
In high school, being a three-sport student-athlete consumed my life in the best way possible. It taught me discipline and responsibility, and it helped me shape a strong work ethic. Some of my best and fondest memories are derived from my involvement in athletics. My hope is to help strengthen the athletic programs in our area to provide the same opportunities to the student-athletes in Rockford Public Schools. I feel blessed to return to Rockford to start my career. I look forward to being a part of the wonderful team that serves the young people of Rockford.
