It is an exciting time of year for the CAPA program, especially at West Middle School. The middle school program is without an elementary feeder program or school. The teachers and staff rely solely on yearly collaborative and innovative recruitment efforts to attract talented students. CAPA teachers believe there is talent distributed throughout the city of Rockford. Many families are unaware of this great Creative and Performing Arts program housed at West and what we can offer artistically gifted students. To spike interest for students to audition, CAPA students present and perform at elementary schools, help at themed celebrations in Rockford and paint faces at numerous events. We have visited the Midway Village Museum and the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens to meet families and put smiles on children's faces.
Since CAPA is an audition-based RPS 205 special program, prospective students must audition at Auburn High School on Sunday, Nov. 18 or Monday, Nov. 19. Visit the CAPA web page to learn more about CAPA. That page includes the link to register for the West CAPA auditions. Families are also invited to the West CAPA Open House at West Middle School, 5:30-7 p.m. Nov. 5 and Nov. 15.
Bricks from New Milford Elementary School will be available to the public starting Monday, Aug. 26.
Auburn High School officials introduced Milwaukee native Jason McClelland to several players and their families on Friday as their choice to lead the girls basketball program in the coming year.
The Chicagoland Summer Showcase, a boys basketball tournament featuring top talent across several states, brought in nearly $650,000 in economic activity to the region.
