The Rockford School Board tonight approved a contract agreement with its bus driver union, AFSCME Local 1275. Contracts are now approved and in place for each of the district's seven collective bargaining units.
The bus drivers, represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, have already ratified the three-year agreement. Terms of the most recent collective bargaining agreement expired July 1. Terms of the new agreement run through June 30, 2016. The union represents about 270 employees.
This contract is retroactive to July 1 and outlines a 90-cent-per-hour base pay increase for each step (longevity within the district). Employees at the final "step" of the pay scale will receive a $1.40 base pay increase. Union employees will also receive a one-time lump sum bonus of $300 in the third year of the contract.
Union employees agreed to the same insurance premiums and coverage plans provided to the district's other bargaining units, which includes a percent-of-premium coverage model. Contracts were recently settled with Educational Office Personnel Association, Nutrition Services, Paraprofessionals, Rockford Building Maintenance Association (RBMA) and the Educational Interpreters Association (EIA).
