RPS 205 Celebrates All-City Fine Arts Week

Rockford Public Schools will celebrate fine arts across the district and the city through All-City Fine Arts week. “We’re excited to make this not only a districtwide celebration of the arts, but a community celebration,” said Bonnie Spurling, Director of Fine Arts Recruitment and Programming. “We’re fortunate to have community organizations and artists in Rockford that support Rockford Public Schools and our fine arts programming. This weeklong celebration is a way to celebrate our arts partnerships in the community and invite the community to see the importance of developing the arts and fostering student talent.”

The community is invited to attend several events that celebrate the arts:

Monday, Jan. 29: All-City Theatre Workshops: Select high school and middle school theatre students will spend the day in theatre workshops at The Nordlof Center. The workshops include dance for theatre, vocal audition techniques, technical lighting, technical theatre scene painting, improvisation, stage combat or props, and master classes that focus on auditions. Theatre workshops are open to select students only. 

Tuesday, Jan. 30: All-City Choir & Orchestra: High school and middle school choir and orchestra students will perform together under the direction of a guest conductor at the Coronado Performing Arts Center. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m.; admission is free. 

Wednesday, Jan. 31: All-City Band: High school and middle school band students will perform together under the direction of a guest conductor at the Coronado Performing Arts Center. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m.; admission is free. The concert will feature a performance from the Band Grandpas, retired volunteers who share their music expertise and passion for music with RPS 205 middle school students. 

Thursday, Feb. 1: Art Gallery Walk​: Student artwork from RPS 205 high schools and middle schools will be on display from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at six downtown locations: Stewart Square: Barbour and Lincoln; The Nordlof Center: Eisenhower, Flinn, RESA; Octane: Auburn, East, Guilford, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Wilson ASPIRE; Rockford Roasting Company: West; Veterans Memorial Hall: Kennedy and Marshall; Thinker Ventures: Auburn, East, Guilford, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Wilson ASPIRE. Admission is free. 

Saturday, Feb. 3: All-City Elementary Music: Select fifth graders will spend the day in workshops that culminate with a performance at Maria Montessori at Marsh. The concert begins at 2 p.m.; admission is free.
