Rockford Public Schools has received an award for excellence in financial reporting for the fifth consecutive year.
The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) recognized the district for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for fiscal year 2013, which aligns with the 2012-13 academic year. The organization notified the district in August it had again received the award, the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting.
According to ASBO, the Certificate of Excellence confirms a school business office’s commitment to financial accountability, transparency, and the highest standards of school system financial reporting. Recognition can help strengthen a district’s presentation for bond issuance statements.
“It’s satisfying to know that RPS 205 has again been recognized for its discipline, transparency and accountability in its financial practice,” said Chief Financial Officer Cedric Lewis. “This award – and its consistency in RPS – continues to send an important message to the community.”
The award is sponsored by VALIC, which manages long-term investment programs for nearly 25,000 not-for-profit and for-profit education, health care and public-sector organizations across the country. The school business officials organization promotes the highest standards of school business management practices.
