Major renovations scheduled for East, Guilford, Jefferson high schools

The Rockford School Board tonight approved architectural services for remodeling work at Jefferson, East and Guilford high schools. The work is in conjunction with the RPS Facilities Master Plan.

Auditorium upgrades are planned at East, Guilford and Jefferson high schools, worth a total of $4.2 million. Additional work could be included if federal or state matching funds are received. The board tonight agreed to hire architectural firm Larson & Darby Group to design the work for $270,000. The upgrades include: a new sound system, lighting replacement, upgrading auditorium access, stage curtains, sound treatment and wall finishes, stage and backstage modifications. Work is expected to be completed in late fall.

"These upgrades are long overdue, and they are a direct reflection of this administration's investment in arts education," said Chief Operations Officer Todd Schmidt.

The upgrades include a new front entrance security vestibule, remodeling in the school's main office, and a complete remodel of the school's gymnasium and commons area, such as bleachers, flooring, lighting, gymnasium equipment and display cases. Work should be completed before school begins in August.
