Congratulations to the Auburn High School students named semifinalists for the 2014 National Merit and National Achievement scholarships.
National Merit Semifinalists include Sarah E. Bliss, Calvin D. Filkin, Haseeb Haroon and Trevor M. Mulick. These students are among approximately 16,000 semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program. They can continue in the competition for about 8,000 National Merit Scholarships – worth about $35 million, total – to be offered in the spring.
The National Achievement Semifinalist from Rockford Public Schools is Precious S. Nwaoha. She is one of approximately 1,600 Black American semifinalists across the country. About 1,300 students are expected to advance to the finalist level from an original applicant pool of 160,000. Approximately 800 Achievement Scholarship awards will be awarded, worth about $2.5 million total, in the spring.
Both programs are run by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The Rockford School Board recognized these students earlier this fall, and we’re looking forward to following their progress. Congratulations to the students, their families, and Auburn High School staff for helping these students achieve. Good luck in the rest of the process!
