The Rockford School Board tonight approved bid recommendations for major lighting upgrades to the East, Guilford and Jefferson high school auditoriums. The work was awarded to Kelso-Burnett Co., the lowest-responsible bidder, for $747,730 to renovate auditorium lighting at all three schools.
Each auditorium has already received significant upgrades, such as seating, wall finishes, carpeting, stage flooring and backstage modifications. Bids for upgrading each school’s auditorium sound system have not yet been awarded.
Three companies submitted offers for the lighting work; The Morse Group was found non-responsive because representatives did not submit required documentation at the time of the bid opening. Total base bids:
- Kelso-Burnett Co.: $747,730
- The Morse Group: $898,500
- Fitzgerald's Electrical Contracting: $1,530,000
Administrators budgeted $700,000 for the project. The remaining $47,730 will be paid for with capital project contingency funds.
The School Board tonight also approved gymnasium floor and bleacher replacement at RESA Middle School. Larson & Larson Builders Inc. was awarded the project for $135,045, which is under budget. Administrators allocated $150,000 for the project.
Upgrades include removing the vinyl gym floor and preparing for a new gym floor, retractable bleachers and gym equipment. Four companies submitted bids; Carroll Seating was found non-responsive because representatives did not submit required documentation at the time of the bid opening. Total base bids:
- Carroll Seating: $134,221
- Larson & Larson Builders, Inc.: $135,045
- Sjostrom & Sons: $139,500
- Cord Construction Company: $186,338
The upgrades are part of the district’s 10-year facilities plan that outlines $250 million in capital improvements. The plan is largely funded by a $139 million bond referendum voters approved in 2012.
