Rockford Public Schools' recent construction work is part of a 10-year plan to upgrade every building in the district. In addition to renovations and upgrades, the plan includes building two schools and 13 additions, plus closing eight schools to make the district more efficient.
The new Cherry Valley Elementary School will serve students in the Cherry Valley/White Swan and Thompson elementary school attendance zones. Constance Lane Elementary School will serve students who live in Kishwaukee, Nelson and a portion of the Beyer elementary school zones.
Construction is funded in part by a voter-approved $139 million capital bond referendum.

Rockford Public Schools will provide free weekday meals for kids 18 and younger June 13-July 11.
Community members – including current and former staff and students – are welcome to attend open houses.
Andrew Baxter will receive a $2,500 scholarship and the distinction of being a National Merit Scholar.
