Rockford Public Schools' recent construction work is part of a 10-year plan to upgrade every building in the district. In addition to renovations and upgrades, the plan includes building two schools and 13 additions, plus closing eight schools to make the district more efficient. The new schools will consolidate Kishwaukee and Nelson elementary schools at one site; Thompson, White Swan and Cherry Valley elementary schools at another.
Construction is funded in part by a voter-approved $139 million capital bond referendum.
