Rockford Public Schools' recent construction work is part of a 10-year plan to upgrade every building in the district. In addition to renovations and upgrades, the plan includes building two schools and 13 additions, plus closing eight schools to make the district more efficient.
The new Cherry Valley Elementary School will serve students in the Cherry Valley/White Swan and Thompson elementary school attendance zones. Constance Lane Elementary School will serve students who live in Kishwaukee, Nelson and a portion of the Beyer elementary school zones.
Construction is funded in part by a voter-approved $139 million capital bond referendum.
